The young bodybuilder, from Retreat, won his division at the IFBB Shameen Bodybuilding Classic held in Rugby, near Milnerton, last weekend. Inspired by American motivational speaker, Les Brown, who overcame many personal challenges before finding his voice on radio, television, and stage, Mutombo found his passion when bitten by the bodybuilding bug a few years ago. Originally from the DRC, Mutombo overcame negativity and prejudice to compete in numerous national bodybuilding competitions. He says he’s also motivated by former international bodybuilding champion Arnold Schwarzenegger and technology entrepreneur, SA-born Elon Musk.

South Africa's bodybuilding powerhouse
When it comes to the sport of body-building – it’s always thought that bigger is better.
But one Johannesburg-based bodybuilder is living proof that size really doesn’t count. Caleb Mutombo stands a hundred and ten centimeters tall and weighs less than 40 kilograms.
He and his younger brother were born with sickle cell anemia – a blood disorder that causes severe deformation of the limbs. But this did not hold him back.
